18. Penny
The next day, Penny went on a little errand for Vera. She was instructed to look for Bianca, or Queen B as many in the household refer to her, in the massive multi-wing mansion. Vera said she couldnât find Bianca and needed her and Evie for a photo op for some magazine article featuring the Wingardens. A reporter would be there soon.
Couldnât she just call Bianca? Or was Biancaâs tracking device cellphone turned off?
Even though it was the end of the summer holiday, the rich kids sure stayed up late. Penny still had a migraine after going to bed late after the party and having to wake up early this morning.
Still, yesterdayâs party was a blast, Penny had to admit. A bit over the top, but she tried not to be star-struck meeting Lady Rachel. Evie was well behaved, thankfully. She was also the best dressed toddler there, next to Lady Rachelâs daughter, of course. Lady Rachel didnât seem to like that.
When she got back from the party last night, Penny overheard Vera on the phone saying how much she hated that Bianca displayed her wealth like ânewâ money. Penny guessed there was a divide between old money and new money. Those who were not used to it and when they got it they flaunted it like there was no tomorrow. Like literally, spending it on high-ticket items as fast as they could. And then you had Veraâs lot, who obviously was a bit more discreet about it and were careful with every penny. And they certainly never flaunted it on the internet for all too see. Evieâs dress was encrusted with diamonds with matching tiara as if it were her own birthday party.
Penny sighed.
Rich peopleâs problem.
The corridors in the west wing were lined with more portraits than an art gallery.
She went to a room and knocked on the door. There was no answer. The door was opened slightly. She was tempted and decided to go in.
âHello? Bianca?â she called out softly.
Couldnât Vera just send Bianca a text message or something?
When she walked into the massive room, she was floored. Her jaw fell open.
The room was a massive gallery of designer shoes. It looked like a grand ballroom with ceiling to floor rows of shoes.
This must be Biancaâs Shoezeum sheâd boasted about on her Instagram page. Bianca was interviewed by a womanâs magazine and held the record for having the most shoes. Something like 2,500 pairs. Who needed that many pairs of shoes?
Penny walked into the well-lit room as the sun shone through. Glass and mirrors all over. The room was bigger than the house she grew up in.
The designer shoes were arranged in rows. Givenchy, Prada, Louis Vuitton, Nike, Dolce and Gabbana and Gucci shoes to name a few. Stilettoes, sneakers, leather boots, every shoe style under the sun. There was another room joined to that room with designer clothes and then another section for designer handbags. Again, all the top luxury brands like Luis Vuitton, Hermes, Chanel, Valentino and Gucci and more to name a few.
